Jigsaw Match — website and Android app · Last updated 6 August 2026

Jigsaw Match is a jigsaw puzzle game. You can play it without an account, without signing in, and without telling us who you are. This page explains exactly what is stored when you do play, why, and how to get rid of it.

The short version. No advertising. No third-party analytics or trackers. Nothing is sold or shared with anyone. You can play the whole game without giving us any personal information at all.

What is stored, and when

If you just play — no account

Your progress lives in your own browser or app storage, not on our servers. We do keep a record of each puzzle session so we can see which pictures people enjoy:

a random player id, generated on your device — it is not linked to you, your name, your email or your device's identifiers;
which puzzle and picture was played, its art style and category, the number of pieces, and the options used (rotation, chunky shapes);
whether the device was a phone/tablet or a computer — not the model, not an advertising id;
when the session started, how long it was actively played, how many pieces were placed, whether it was finished, and a thumbs up/down if you give one.

This is used to decide which pictures to show and which to retire. It is not used to build a profile of you and it is not shared.

If you create an account

Accounts are optional. They exist so your hearts and your finished pictures follow you to another device. An account stores:

the display name you choose — other players see this next to your cursor on a shared board;
your email address, if you give one — used only to sign in and to reset your password;
your password, stored only as a bcrypt hash. We cannot read it, and neither can anyone who steals the database;
which pictures you have finished, which you have hearted, the puzzle you are part-way through, and your puzzle-making preferences;
when the account was created and last used.

Signing out removes the sign-in token from your device and nothing else. Your local progress stays where it is.

If you upload your own photo

The photo is stored on our server so the puzzle can be cut from it and so anyone you share the puzzle with can play it. Please read this part carefully:

A puzzle made from your own photo is not listed publicly. It does not appear in the "Recently played puzzles" gallery and it is not included in the list of recent boards the site publishes, so nobody can come across it by browsing. The puzzle is also not named after your file.

It is still reachable by its link, though. That is what makes sharing work: anyone you send the link to can open the puzzle and see the picture, and can pass that link on. Puzzle links are not guessable, but they are not secret either. Please don't upload photographs of other people without their agreement, or anything you would mind a stranger seeing.

Uploaded photos are deleted automatically along with the puzzle — see Retention below.

Playing with other people

On a shared board, the other players see your display name and your cursor position while you play. That is the whole point of a shared board, but it is worth saying plainly.

What is not stored

No advertising. The app and site show no ads and contain no advertising SDK.
No third-party analytics. No Google Analytics, no Firebase, no Facebook SDK, no attribution or crash-reporting service.
No advertising identifier, no device fingerprint, no contacts, no location, no microphone, no camera roll access. The app asks for no Android permissions beyond internet access.
No IP address logs. Your IP address is used momentarily to limit how many puzzles can be created from one connection per minute, and it is hashed before it is written down. The raw address is never stored.

Who else is involved

Two third parties see a request when you use Jigsaw Match:

Google Fonts serves the display typeface. Loading a font sends your IP address and browser type to Google, as any web request does. No account information and no game data is sent.
Our hosting provider operates the servers that run the site, and Cloudflare sits in front of them to serve pages quickly and absorb attacks. Both handle traffic on our behalf and neither is given your game data to use for its own purposes.

If you installed the app from Google Play, Google separately collects its own install and crash information under its own policy. We do not receive personal information from it.

How long things are kept

Puzzles and uploaded photos: deleted automatically once a puzzle has gone 30 days without anyone touching it.
Account data: kept until you ask us to delete the account.
Play statistics: deleted automatically after 90 days. What remains afterwards is a plain count of how many times each picture has been played — a number attached to the picture, with nothing attached to any player.

Deleting your data

To delete a puzzle and its picture immediately, use the delete option on the puzzle, or simply stop opening it and it will be removed within 30 days.

To delete your account and everything attached to it, open the menu under your name and choose Delete my account. You will be asked for your password to confirm, and the deletion happens immediately — your account, your email address, your hearts and your finished-picture list are all removed. There is nothing to wait for and no request to approve.

Your puzzles and progress on the device itself are deliberately left alone: the account mirrors your device rather than storing it for you, so removing the account does not take your solved puzzles with it. You are simply signed out.

If you would rather we did it, or you have lost access to the account, email [email protected] from the address on the account and we will delete it and confirm. You do not need to give a reason.

Children

The Android app is intended for children as well as adults, and is listed on Google Play for an audience that includes under-13s. We follow Google Play's Families Policy, and the app is built so that a child cannot hand over personal information in the first place:

there are no accounts in the app — no email address, no password, nothing to sign up for;
there is no photo upload;
there is nothing to type — the name shown to other players on a shared board is generated for you, and cannot be edited.

What the app does record is the anonymous play statistics described at the top of this page, which are not linked to any person and are deleted after 90 days.

The website has more features than the app: it offers optional accounts, photo uploads and a name you can choose. Those are intended for adults and older children. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account on the website, email us and we will delete it.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that affects what is collected, the date at the top changes and the current version always lives at this address.
